MSN Messenger build 7.0.0813 has been released!

A new build (called a QFE – Quick Fix Engineering release) is now available for MSN Messenger 7.0.  The Messenger team has done a great job of fixing the top issues that we’ve been seeing in PSS.  Kudos to the Messenger team.  Well done, folks!

The new build includes fixes for:

– MSN Messenger hanging at sign in with certain NATs.
– MSN Messenger won’t allow the transfer of certain file types such as JPG, PNG, MP3, etc. in some cases.
– Error R6025.
– The Main Window displays the incorrect status for “Always Sign in As” in some cases.
– Crash when starting PhotoSwap.
– Crash at shutdown after blocking a contact.
– "What I’m Listening To" is now more reliable.
– A certain infamous wink has been removed.
– Fixes for Audio invites not working in some cases.

. . .  and a couple of other fixes as well.  Overall, the release is choked full of IM goodness.  Go install it now!

ZoRoNaX,The messenger team leaves the beta releated error messages in the code base so that next time there is a beta released, they don\’t to add them back in.I believe the error reporting to the wrong window bug was fixed in the QFE.

Several of us have installed Messenger to try out audio and video conversations. We are all behind routers in various parts of the world. 1) Audio conversations do not appear to work, are inbound ports required to be open in the firewall ? If so we may not risk it.2) However, we gather that people behind router/firewalls have been advised to use video conversations as the audio should work on these. We tried this today and the audio conversation seems to run at less than half speed making it useless. Please advise on how to fix this.

Has anyone reproduced the issue with errors goign to the wrong window with build 0813?

  12. Siebe says:

I have to agree with Zoro here.. It looks as if the MSN Messenger team isn\’t as dedicated to their product as they used to be.

  13. Messenger says:

The wink was only available in certain markets, France being one of them if I recall correctly.

Quote John Bokma:"- I was having an IM with one person, he send me a file and aborted the transfer beforeI accepted it. I was having an IM with someone else at the time of the cancel, and themessage was reported in the other window. Sounds like errors are reported in thewindow that has the focus, and not in the related window"That bug was already in build 777 along with some others which they don\’t seem to have fixed :/And technically speaking this build is still a beta (msgslang.dll, String Table #2438, Entry: 39004 & 39005)So I don\’t know what you guys have been doing but it still bugs, pitty for a second try though :/-ZoRoNaX

Jeff, just one note – what what was the infamous wink??I\’ve looked in the winks and cant recall which ones where there in the first place!!

  16. Unknown says:

Great work! Keep up the good work. Two other things I have seen:- I was having an IM with one person, he send me a file and aborted the transfer before I accepted it. I was having an IM with someone else at the time of the cancel, and the message was reported in the other window. Sounds like errors are reported in the window that has the focus, and not in the related window- Jump back – when someone sends a link, sometimes my window "jumps back" to the link given. This was also the case in 6 and probably even before. It\’s very annoying. Closing and opening the window helps. What I really would love to see: blocking/unblocking groups
